Senior System Administrator

hyper growth start up seeking an awesome system administrator to implement and operate our cloud-based production infrastructure.  Our mission is to deliver the most captive, viral, social and profitable games that connect people via rich social experiences online.  We look to do this via superior game design and taking a quantitative approach to user engagement, play testing and user acquisition.  The Company is well funded by Tier I venture firms Bain Capital Ventures and Battery Ventures and lead by several successful serial entrepreneurs and game designers of epic hits in the video game industry.  We have an entrepreneurial environment that promotes creative game design structured by a highly iterative optimization process. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

You will be spearheading the planning, implementation and operation of our production application and analytics infrastructure.  Your challenge is to implement process, tools and infrastructure that will make deployment, operation, monitoring and reporting look easy.  You will play a key role in all phases from initial planning to live operations and will be laying the foundation for building out a team as the business grows.   

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Planning and implementing cloud-based staging & production infrastructure for hosting and analyzing ultra high-scale social applications
• Selecting and employing tools and writing scripts to automate deployment, monitoring and load management
• Working hand in hand with development team to ensure applications are built for manageability and scale
• Working with the CTO to develop a cost-effective, scalable hosting strategy
• Constantly refining tools and practices to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of operations
• Heading up production deployment, operation and monitoring

 

REQUIREMENTS 

• Proven experience running a public facing site supporting significant, sustained user load 
• Excellent scripting & automation skills
• Experience building and using automated deployment infrastructure
• Experience assembling and using health and performance monitoring tools 
• Knowledge of administering MySQL 
• Comfort with alternative distributed NoSQL data-stores like HBase and Cassandra 
• Experience configuring and managing load balancers
• Experience with cloud hosting on Amazon EC2 or equivalent 
• Solid understanding of core networking infrastructure and stack including DNS, firewalls, load-balancers, security and TCP/IP stack
• Experience being oncall 24/7
